Stavroula A. Chrysanthopoulou
Candidate for Council
Stavroula A. Chrysanthopoulou, PhD, is an Assistant
Professor and Director of the Master’s Program in the
Department of Biostatistics at Brown University School
of Public Health. She is also the Director of the
Statistical Consulting Unit at the Center for
Statistical Sciences at Brown SPH, and a Core Faculty
Member of the Biostatistics Core (Core G) of the
Providence-Boston Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
Dr Chrysanthopoulou research interests focus on
statistical methods for the development of complex
predictive modeling, including calibration, validation
and assessment of the predictive accuracy. She is
exploring advanced empirical and Bayesian approaches
for the development of complex simulation models and
high performance computing and parallel processes for
improving the efficiency of the underlying algorithms.
She currently has multiple collaborations on projects
for the development of simulation models used in
medical decision making, including, microsimulation
models for lung cancer (MILC) and dementia, the
RESPOND cohort-based model for Opioid Use Disorder
(OUD), and agent-based models for COVID-19, HIV, and
other infectious diseases. Dr Chrysanthopoulou has
also extensive experience with mentoring students and
teaching at Graduate level programs of Biostatistics,
with a variety of statistical courses including
survival, longitudinal, multilevel, and multivariate
data analysis.
Prior to joining the Department of Biostatistics at
Brown University, Stavroula received her BSc in
Statistics from Athens University of Economic and
Business, ScM in Biostatistics from University of
Athens, and PhD in Biostatistics from Brown
University. She also worked for three years in the
Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at UMASS
Medical School, where she is currently an Adjunct
