Shan Xiao

Dr. Shan Xiao is Director of Statistics at Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease. Prior to joining Alexion, Shan led an NDA submission for a hematology rare-disease compound to multiple regulatory agencies and supported associated GCP sponsor inspections conducted by various health authorities.
Earlier in his career, Shan worked at Biogen, progressing from Senior Biostatistician to Principal Biostatistician. During this time, he received extensive training in applying statistical methods to clinical trials in neurology and dermatology.
Shan received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2017. His dissertation focused on the Bayesian design and analysis of cluster-randomized trials. He also holds an M.S. in Public Health and a B.S. in Mathematics from Southeast University in Nanjing, China.
His research interests include Bayesian statistics, clinical trial design and analysis, statistical Go/No-Go decision-making, and simulation.
