Ouhong Wang
Candidate for Council
Dr. Ouhong Wang has been a statistical leader in the
pharmaceutical industry for 27 years, most recently as
VP, Head of Biostatistics at Vertex Pharmaceuticals
since 2017. Prior to that, he held various leadership
and technical positions at several major
pharma/biotech companies including VP for
Biostatistics and Data Science for Boehringer
Ingelheim in Asia, and Head of Biostatistics and
Programming at Amgen Asia R&D Center, both in
Shanghai, China. Prior to his international
assignments, he spent 9 years at Amgen in California
after 10 years at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.
His research interests include clinical trial
methodology, causal inference in observational
research, model based phase 1 design, and rare disease
statistical research and drug development. Ouhong is
active in growing the influence of the statistics
profession, with the most recent example being his
founding roles of the Boston area Stats Summit series,
as well as the NERDS Workshop series in collaboration
with NESS. He has spoken about technical and
leadership topics on numerous occasions in both the US
and China.
Ouhong received his PhD in statistics from Iowa State
University.
