NextGen Scholarship for Underrepresented Minorities
This scholarship aims to advance the representation of underrepresented groups in statistics and data science by supporting graduating high school seniors and first/second-year undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in a data science-related field (e.g., statistics, quantitative fields in social science, math, engineering, and computer science). The scholarships will support the efforts of NESS to improve the diversity and inclusivity of its community, as well as in the fields of statistics and data science.
NextGen Section of The New England Journal of Statistics in Data Science
Our section of the journal serves as a platform to further the NetGen Committee’s goals of attracting and engaging young enthusiasts on problems confronting modern data science. Articles may describe novel methodologies, applied aspects, and may take the form of expository data analysis or writing, highlighting key facets of conducting and teaching statistics and data science. Case studies, data sets, historical perspectives, review articles, short videos, and statistical art projects are equally encouraged. Contributions from early-career statisticians, graduate/undergraduate students, K-12 kids and their teachers, and those new to data science are especially welcome.
Careers in Academia Panel at the New England Statistics Symposium
This annual session of NESS features a panel discussion among three faculty members from a variety of institutions who have recently been on the job market and are excited to share their experiences looking for a position and building a career. The panel discusses a variety of topics, including the different kinds of academic positions that are available for statisticians, what the application and interview process was like, the approaches they used to land a job, and what strategies they are using to grow in academia.
