The Department of Statistics at UConn and the local “Distinguished
Statistician Colloquium Series” committee are happy to announce the
renewal of the wonderful tradition of the Pfizer Colloquium –
Distinguished Statisticians Series, which ran from 1978 until 2012 and
included the likes of C. R. Rao, Bradley Efron, D.R. Cox, and many
more.
The new series will be called the Pfizer/ASA/UConn Distinguished
Statistician Colloquium Series. It will be co-sponsored by Pfizer, the
American Statistical Association, and the Department of Statistics at
the University of Connecticut.
This year’s speaker at the Distinguished Statistician Colloquium
Series will be Prof. Grace Wahba from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. Prof. Wahba is renowned for her work in statistical
theory and the development of efficient numerical and statistical
methods for large data sets, and has developed methods with
applications in biostatistics, weather prediction, machine learning,
climate science, and more. She will be interviewed by Hao Helen Zhang
from the University of Arizona and Yoonkyung Lee from The Ohio State
University.
The event, which is generously sponsored by Pfizer, the American
Statistical Association, and the Department of Statistics at UConn,
will take place on September 26, 2018 at UConn’s Alumni Center. It
will begin with a reception at 3:30pm, followed by a colloquium and an
interview, and will conclude with a banquet dinner which will be
served at 6:30pm.
The event is open to the public. However, space and accommodations may
be limited. For additional information about the Pfizer/ASA/UConn
